The Ai2 Project Manager Who’s A Real “Angel”

Believe it or not, the people of Ai2 have interests outside of developing software apps.  Aside from the usual golfers, musicians, and the one guy who’s a beekeeper, one Ai2 staffer spends a lot of her free time supporting the armed forces of the U.S.

One of our project managers, Lauren Pomerantz, is a very active member of Soldiers’ Angels, an organization dedicated to support for our troops before, during and after their deployment.

An iPad App That Every Business Can Use

For much of our life as a software developer, we were only a presence in wholesale distribution across a few different segments: foodservice, grocery, convenience/c-store, san/jan, hardware, medical supply and a few others.

With our expansion into the iOS universe and the development of Pigeonholes Enterprise Content Management for iPad, we now have an app that can be used by universities (students and faculty), airlines, local and federal governments, hospitals, labs, or any organization that deploys iPads as part of its business model.  Since it manages and syncs content across 1 or 10,000 iPads, its ideal for anyone who needs to keep a lot of people on the same page.

What’s more, we’re expanding our reach beyond North America to every corner of the globe.  iPads and their apps are sold in over 100 countries.  It’s a big world out there and we’re ready to work for clients on six continents.  Pretty exciting.

No More Pencils, No More Books? The iPad Education Initiative

Apple announced today that they’re debuting an easy way to publish e-books and an app to distribute interactive textbooks for students at every level.

“In another demo, Apple’s Roger Rosner showed off textbooks for the iPad that allow students to zoom into pictures of cells, dissect digital frogs and make notes and highlights on the e-book pages.” – CNN

Ho-hum, just another day of Apple changing the way we watch movies/listen to music/work/play games.  The thought of dissecting a digital frog is very appealing – we all remember the nasty formaldehyde smell from high school biology.

Mirror Mirror On The Server

A typical tower serverWhen Ai2 sets up one of our software solutions to communicate with your back-office ERP system, we all but demand that you purchase a 2nd server (usually from Dell) to mirror every transaction happening on the primary server.

The communication server acts as the gateway between handhelds/iPads/laptops in the field and your back office.  No piece of hardware in the world is 100% failsafe, so it’s best to spend a few extra bucks up front and make sure you’re covered in the event of the primary server becoming unavailable. An iPad Case Specifically Designed for Sales Reps

One of the few critiques of the iPad is that it is not a rugged device – it’s not built to take a drop or the kind of abuse that industrial handheld computers do.  A dropped iPad is an inconvenience for a regular consumer, but for a sales rep it could cost you a few days’ work.   Your boss probably won’t be thrilled about having to buy you another iPad either!
