Windows 8 Consumer Preview Here

Windows 8We’ve been talking a lot about Apple and the ubiquitous iPad a lot lately.  Let’s switch gears for a moment and look at Windows 8 in its consumer preview here.

As you’d expect, this preview focuses on basic consumer activities like music, photos, videos and sharing with your friends.  As we perhaps did not expect, it looks more exciting than anything Windows has done previously.  Ai2 Insider will keep an eye out for more details as they become available, particularly regarding business applications for Windows 8.  Microsoft expects to release Windows 8 this summer.

Our plan for our tens of thousands of users on Windows-based solutions is to keep them supported as long as Microsoft supports the versions of Windows (XP and up) on which they run.  We’re here to help with the transition to 8 as well.

Are you excited for Windows 8?  Give us a shout today.

iPad 3 To Be Announced March 7

Via Gizmodo and The Verge.

Very exciting.  There are already 100 million iOS devices on the street and this is likely to give Apple another boost.  Good news for our ProSel and Pigeonholes users, more bad news for competitors like Samsung.

We’ll have coverage here during the event and we’ll break down what it means for businesses like yours.  Thanks for reading Ai2 Insider.

Two Types of Outside Sales Rep: “Hunters” and “Farmers”

Every outside salesperson has a variety of responsibilities.  In wholesale distribution, the two main types of salespeople can be categorized:

Hunters: Primary focus is to secure new accounts, prospect, cold call, “pound the pavement,” however you’d like to say it.  Once accounts are established, at a restaurant, hardware store, convenience store or other retailer, the customer is responsible for placing his own regular orders, through a handheld, web portal or other connection to the inside sales staff.  The retailer may get a visit from his “hunter” from time to time, but the account will likely be maintained by:

Farmers: Primary focus is to maintain existing accounts, often writing up the customer’s order for them.  For example, a foodservice representative will visit a restaurant, and often the manager or head chef will just call out the order that he needs, while the sales rep enters the order and provides up-sell or cross-sell opportunities on the fly.  A farmer may also walk the store aisles to scan products, check inventory levels, and recommend new programs.  Farmers may also work with retailers on store layout, product positioning, returns, credits and paying invoices.

Many organizations’ salespeople are responsible for both hunting and farming.  Whether you’ve got hunters or farmers or both on your sales staff, it’s important that they have the right information at the right time to do the best possible job.  At Ai2, our enterprise mobility solutions help farmers take fast, accurate orders that are seamlessly transmitted to your back office computer system.  We also help your hunters make exciting, memorable presentations to new prospects and accounts.  No matter what industry you’re in, we can help you improve your sales process.

Ai2′s Highlights from the AWMA Show For Convenience and Grocery Distributors

We had a successful and productive trip to Las Vegas for the AWMA Show, an expo and conference for the wholesale grocery/candy/tobacco industry.  Highlights included:

  • The chance to show ProSel’s ability to scan UPC bar codes and other items with a Bluetooth scanner that pairs with the iPad.
  • Drayton McLane’s opening speech.
  • Meeting customers new and established while having the opportunity to demo our solutions in person instead of via the web.
  • Connecting with other technology providers to the industry.  Distributors need access to a great deal of data to manage their sales, and we appreciate the chance to work hand in hand with companies who manage sales out data and other critical functions.
  • Our cocktail reception, where 20 winners took home over $2,000 in raffle prizes: an iPad 2 (of course), a 42″ TV, Jawbone Jambox speakers and $1,000 in casino chips.  We’re told that a few winners doubled their money right away on the Paris gaming floor.

Congratulations again to all our winners, and a sincere thank you to everyone who visited our booth.  We’ll have photos and video soon.  Don’t forget to download the free version of our app here:  http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/prosel/id416152090?mt=8

As iPad 3 Rumors Swirl, Apple Devices Retain Value Longer Than Kindle, Droid Devices

CNN has a good article today about iPad and other iOS devices retaining their value longer than the Kindle Fire or comparable Android products.

The secondary market will probably flood with iPad 1s and 2s when the iPad 3 goes on sale.  We should mention that our solutions for iPad run on all iPads, as long as they’re running iOS 5.

Hardware costs are a large factor in implementing solutions like ours and sometimes the cost of the hardware is the largest part of the investment.  It’s critical to your success that Ai2 continues to help you get the best value for your business hardware purchase, especially if you are planning a large rollout.  Ask one of our experts about your hardware options today.

Software Demos Are Better In Person – Ai2

The live software demo is a key step in our process here at Ai2.  Every company has different needs, and with a versatile product, it’s important to convey all the important points to someone whose problems may be solved with our solutions.

When you’re looking into Ai2 products, one of our sales reps will walk you through demos of the products of your choosing.  Since our clients are all over the US and Canada, we often need to use GoToMeeting or a similar webcasting product.  GoToMeeting is great, but there’s just no substitute for being side-by-side with someone and seeing the look in their eyes when they “get it.”  When they understand the value of our solutions and the role they play in solving business issues.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, an object is worth a thousand pictures.  The freedom to hand someone a mobile computer, a tablet, or flip a screen around to show them what you’ve just done carries a lot more weight in person.  It becomes a dialogue instead of a monologue, and anyone who’s ever given a presentation knows the value of audience participation.

You also get to shake hands, make eye contact and maybe share lunch.  Who doesn’t appreciate a meeting that comes with pizza?

If you’re in the Midwest, don’t hesitate to consider having one of our reps visit you.  We’re glad to visit anywhere in the US or Canada.  Or look us up if you’re in Chicago – we’re downtown near Millennium Park.  We’ll bring the pizza.
