How the iPad Transformed a 25-Year-Old Company – News About Ai2 from Business Insider

Business Insider published this article on how Ai2 is taking new technology to established industries and helping them achieve the ROI they need from their technology.

Businesses of all kinds are embracing the mobility of the iPad platform.  As CEO Douglas Katich says in the interview,  ”[the iPad] is such a beautiful display tool.  We could help our customers digitize all that content saving them tens of thousands of dollars in printing costs every month.”

New Smaller iPad? Just a Rumor For Now

Several news sources are reporting the rumors that Apple will release a smaller version of the iPad this fall, presumably intended to compete with the Kindle Fire and the upcoming Windows tablets.  While Apple has made no official announcement, the rumors persist as a result of the parts orders that factories in Asia are currently receiving.

The Mashable article is here.

We’ll see if the rumors are true.  Before he passed away, Steve Jobs did not care for small tablets.  Apple had an excellent first quarter, so they don’t seem to be feeling the heat from the Fire just yet.  As for the Windows tablets, they’re unseen and unproven.  They may emerge as a real competitor, but that remains to be seen.  Ai2 prospective clients should know that we’ll investigate these avenues as they arise.

From our perspective at Ai2, we won’t know if a smaller iPad is the best option for salespeople and customers until we do our usual rigorous testing.  If a smaller iPad was already in independent retailers’ hands, it would make it that much easier to set them up for recurring orders to their distributor.

Like the rest of the world, we’ll just have to wait until Apple reveals its plans.

Ai2 Not The Only Ones Developing For iOS First

ImageThere are several different versions of the Android OS and a multitude of tablets that haven’t exactly taken the world by storm.  The result is that software developers are taking a “wait and see” approach or gravitating towards iOS first, according to a new study.  iPads currently outsell all Droid tablets combined.

We’re one such developer who had to make this decision – which platform will our clients need?  We have great resources but they are not unlimited and we had to hitch our wagon to either Droid or iOS at one point over a year ago.  You know which one we chose.

Android’s not dead, and other competitors will emerge in the coming months and years.  We have not ruled it out.  But as our founder John Katich used to say, “If you chase two rabbits, you’ll catch neither.”

Three Million iPads And Counting

Get Ai2's iPad apps for business todayApple says it sold three million iPads in about a dozen countries over a four-day period.  As they rush for another Friday delivery of the world’s most popular tablet, a few points become very clear:

We are firmly in the post-PC era – Apple sold more iPads in 4Q 2011 than any manufacturer sold notebooks.

Apple is dominating the tablet market, although Android is gaining a little bit of ground.

Many consumers have moved on to their second or third iPad while very few are on their second Playbook or Xoom.

Widespread acceptance of the iPad means that it is becoming an integral part of the way we work, read, play, share, browse and learn.

What does this mean for Ai2 and the clients we serve?  We have not stopped developing for Windows notebooks or handhelds, nor do we have any plans to do so.  However, we can’t help but notice how many people and industries are embracing new technology in a way we’ve never seen from them.  Whatever your path, we’re there for you.  No matter how fun and shiny the device is, if the functionality for your business isn’t there then it’s no good.
